General Notes: Husband - Christian Keller

The first of the Keller family to locate in this portion of Potter township, Centre County, Pennsylvania, was Christian Keller, who secured a tract of land from the Potters in 1828. By trade he was a miller.

In connection with the homestead of the Kellers, an incident which occurred in the life of Christian may be of some interest. When yet a young man, in 1806, he, accompanied by some companions, among them Catharine Henney, his future wife, proceeded to the house of Conrad Dillman to have a tooth extracted. Dillman at that time lived upon what later became the Keller farm, and was known for miles around for his dexterity in the use of the forceps. After the completion of their errand the party returned home, intending to proceed by the way of the Old Fort and inspect it, as none of them had ever looked upon that historic spot. Upon reaching a slight elevation of ground a short distance from Dillman's, Christian looked back, and, turning to Catharine, pointed at Dillman's place, remarking, "If you and I had that place it would be all I should wish for." She smiled, but said nothing. Twenty-five years after that (his wish was accomplished in the meantime) he related the circumstance.
