He was a native of Ireland, immigrated from County Down in 1750, and finally settled on Turtle Creek, at Braddock's Fields.

Among the settlers who came into Pine (then Wolf Creek) Township, Mercer County, Pennsylvania, in 1798 were the Whites, from Washington County. They were of Scotch descent; Seceders in religion, and anti-slavery in politics.
He was a soldier in the Revolutionary War.
