General Notes: Husband - John Joseph Henderson

He served in the Civil War, enlisting in Co. K, 150 Regiment, Penn. Vol. Inf. August 29, 1862 and served until mustered out June 15, 1865. He participated in the battles of Fredericksburg, Chancelorsville, Gettysburg and the Wilderness. Early in 1865 he was on detached duty at Washington and knew Lincoln and was on duty at Fords Theater and saw the President shot April 14, 1865. At the close of the war he returned to Meadville where he took up the study of law and was admitted to the bar in 1867. He was elected District Attorney for Crawford County in 1872, and served four years. In 1888, he was elected Presiding Judge of the 30th Penn. Judicial District and served ten years. He was appointed a Judge of the Superior Court of Penn. in April 1903 by Governor Pennypacker and elected to that position in the fall of 1903 for a term of ten years and was re-elected in 1913 and again in 1923 at the age of 80 years by a plurality of 683,000. He was trustee of Allegheny College, 1874-1928, and President of the Board for a number of years.
