General Notes: Husband - Steuben Helmer


Civil War: he was a member of Company C, 67th Regiment, New York Volunteers, was killed at the battle of the Wilderness. When comrades came to his aid he said: "Help the others first, those who have a better chance for life." When the comrades later returned a fire had swept the field and the wounded had perished.
