General Notes: Husband - Lawrence T. Hertlein

In the common schools of Karthaus township, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, Mr. Hertlein, obtained his education, and on the home farm received valuable lessons in industry and economy. He never left the parental roof, and long resided on the old homestead, where he owned ninety-eight acres of valuable land, but cultivated 150 acres. The tract, which comprised 444 acres, was underlaid with a good grade of coal and other minerals. His place was improved with a pleasant dwelling and a fine set of farm buildings. In connection with the operation of his land he always engaged in lumbering during the winter months, and thus added not a little to his income. During the early days when deer, wild-cat, bear and other game was plentiful, he indulged in his fondness for hunting, making a specialty of deer.
