General Notes: Husband - Capt. W. Seward B. Hays
When he was six months old his parents moved to Butler County, Pennsylvania, and three years later to Mifflin township, Allegheny County, where he obtained his education in private and public schools. On his father's farm he worked until eighteen years of age, at which time he commenced running on the river, assisting his father.
He resided on the old homestead farm in Mifflin township. He and his wife were members of Lebanon Presbyterian Church; in politics Capt. Hays was a republican.
