General Notes: Husband - William Hayes

He followed the trades of a carder and fuller in his early life, but was not satisfied with this work. In 1830, or thereabouts, he bought a tract of land in Lackawannock Township, Mercer County, Pennsylvania, five acres of which had been cleared, and in the opening a set of log buildings had been erected. Laboring with perseverance and persistency, he cleared the remainder of his purchase, erected a substantial set of frame buildings in place of the original ones of logs, and was there successfully employed in general farming until his death, at the age of seventy-seven years.
