Mrs. Alverda Hassel
Mrs. Alverda (Frances) Hassel, 75, of 146 Park St., Grove City, died at 4:08 p.m. Sunday in United Community Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Hassel was born Feb. 2, 1908, in Pine Township, a daughter of William and Ina Coulter Hodil, She was married to David F. Hassel, who died in December of 1967.
Mrs. Hassel was a graduate of Grove City High School. She had worked at the former Grove City National Bank (now Northwest Bank), Cooper Bessemer Co., and was retired from the Grove City Hospital.
She was a member of Covenant Orthodox Presbyterian Church, and was active in the Victory Sunday School class, Adult Fellowship and the Dorcas Circle, as well as serving as church organist for many years.
She was a past president of the Grove City Music Club and the Mercer/Grove City Area Organ Club, was a board member of the Old Stone House Association, and was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons, the Grove City Women's Club, the Senior Citizens Kitchen Band and the Mercer County Historical Society.
Mrs. Hassel is survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Medora Hassel, in 1950; two brothers, Harrison Hodil and Clinton Hodil; and three sisters, Mrs. Lila Graham, Miss Alice Hodil and Mrs. Elda White.
Friends will be received at the John C. Dorr Funeral Home, E. Pine St., from 7 to 9 p.m. today. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday from the Covenant Orthodox Presbyterian Church, E. Poplar Street, with the Rev. Ivan R. Davis, pastor, officiating.
Interment will be in Amity Cemetery, Venango County.
