He was a prominent lawyer who studied law under Judge Metzgar. He was district attorney of Lycoming County, Pennsylvania; was appointed master to settle the dispute between the Pennsylvania Railroad Company and the State of Pennsylvania; elected judge in Lycoming County and later president judge of the district, and represented his district in both branches of the state legislature.
