General Notes: Husband - Edwin F. G. Harper


He attended the local public school and New Castle High School, New Castle, Pennsylvania. He studied law in the office of Colonel Jackson. He was admitted to the bar on March 1, 1897, and thereafter practiced in the County Supreme and Superior courts. He served one term in the State Legislature, during which he was chairman of the Printing Committee, and was a member of the Judiciary General, Education, Banks and Banking, and Compare Bills committees. For several years he was a member of the New Castle School Board, of which he was secretary his entire term. He was a presiding president of the Lawrence County Bar Association. During the World War he was a "four-minute" speaker and gave much of his time to that service and to aiding the Liberty Loan drives.
Mr. Harper stood high in Masonry. He was a member and a Past Master of Mahoning Lodge, No. 243, Free and Accepted Masons; was a Past High Priest of Delta Chapter, No. 170; Royal Arch Masons; and Past Eminent Commander of Lawrence Commandery, Knights Templar. He was a member of all the Scottish Rite bodes up to and including the Consistory-all the bodies named being of New Castle; and was a life-member of Syria Temple, Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, in Pittsburgh. He also belonged to the New Castle Field Club; and to the Sons of the American Revolution, through Thomas Harper, his great-grandfather, who served in the 2nd Pennsylvania Regiment, Continental Line, under Anthony Wayne, at Stony Point, and was with St. Clair in his expedition against the Indians in the Western Reserve, and was wounded in the arm in that campaign.
Mr. Harper was a Republican, and a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. He was a member of the board of trustees of his church for a number of years.


General Notes: Wife - Margaret Maranda "Maggie" Roberts

from New Castle, Lawrence Co, PA

She was a descendant of an old Colonial family named Ball. She belonged to the Colonial Dames, and the Daughters of the American Revolution, having five ancestors who took part in the War for Independence.
