General Notes: Husband - Stephen S. Leighty

He lived on a farm in Dunbar township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, on the road from Vanderbilt to New Haven.

He was reared a farmer and followed that occupation all his life. He owned three hundred acres of good farm land underlaid with coal, but sold the coal at the rate of twelve dollars per acre - later worth hundreds. The farm he retained, and it was later owned by his son Ulysses Grant. He was a Republican, served as school director, and was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Liberty.
