General Notes: Husband - Benjamin F. Newcomer

He attended the public schools and grew to manhood on the home farm. He followed farming all his life, and later resided on his farm of one hundred acres in Upper Tyrone township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, living a quiet retired life after his many years of activity. He was a Republican in politics, and a member of the Methodist Episcopal church.
He served in the Civil War as a private of Company K, 168th Regiment Pennsylvania Infantry, from 1862 until the close of the war, both as a drafted man and a volunteer, and on second enlistment. He saw hard service, and was in many of the severe battles of the war.
