He and his wife were Scotch Protestants, who came from the north of Ireland to America in 1732, settling first in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania; later in what is now Perry County, Pennsylvania. His will was dated Apr. 19, 1769, and probated Aug. 15, 1769, at Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
