General Notes: Husband - Edward Van Horn

He came to Harrison County, Ohio, in all probability, immediately after his marriage. He was a soldier in the War of 1812, being stationed near Toledo, where either wounds or sickness prostrated him, and word was sent to his wife far away in her little log cabin, that her husband was dying. The courageous woman stopped only long enough to wrap her infant son warmly, and, with him in her arms, in the dead of winter, she rode alone through the deep virgin forests until she reached the military camp. There she found preparations were being made to bury one whom his comrades believed to be past help, but the sight of his brave wife and babe created a reaction, and he recovered and lived many years afterward to show his devotion to so faithful a wife. He was one of the first men to banish liquor from the harvest field, going against a popular custom of the day.
