General Notes: Husband - Thomas J. McCullough

He was born at Big Beaver, Pennsylvania, where he attended the public schools. During the early part of his life he owned and successfully carried on a farm in Big Beaver Township, Lawrence County. In 1906 he was appointed by Governor John K. Tenner as superintendent of highways for Lawrence and Mercer counties, and he continued in that office until May, 1923, when he resigned to become county commissioner of Lawrence County. When Mr. McCullough first started out with his plans and equipment to make better highways, there existed but one and one-half miles of improved roadways in all Lawrence County; but when he had concluded his superintendency, there were eighty-six and a quarter miles of thoroughfares in Lawrence County, and one hundred and fourteen and a quarter miles of improved roads in Mercer County; and the bridges in both counties, of which he also had charge, were kept in good order.
He was a Republican in politics, and a firm supporter of the principles of that party. Mr. McCullough was at one time a member of the State National Guard; and he was a member of Big Beaver Grange, Patrons of Husbandry. He was a member of the board of trustees of the Presbyterian Church in Wampum.
