His education was obtained at the public schools of Washington, Pennsylvania, after which for six years he clerked for Thomas Morgan, dealer in dry goods. In 1888 he opened out a merchant tailoring and gents' furnishing establishment in Oak Hall, No. 20 North Main street, Washington. In politics he was a live, active Republican. In church matters he was an Episcopalian. Socially he was a member of the I. O. H. He lived at the old Hallam homestead on East Beau street.
