General Notes: Husband - William Sample

He owned two hundred acres (which he sold in 1871) of the original tract of land owned by his father, and for fifty-four years was engaged at farming. After 1872 he resided in Sharpsburg, retired. For twenty-one years he was school director of his township. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, and was a republican and voted for both the Harrisons for the presidency.

He was by trade a miller, owning and occupying part of the land which had been a grant to his father from the government. This land he cultivated for fifty years. He served Shaler township in its various offices, among them that of school director, which he held for twenty-one years.

He and his wife had eight children; six were still living in 1889.
