General Notes: Husband - Samuel McMurdy


At the age of seventeen he went to learn the trade of a tanner, shoe-maker, and harness-maker. He got his schooling in the log school-house of the olden time. His first purchase of land in Richland township, Venango County, Pennsylvania, consisted of 77 acres, for which he paid the sum of three dollars an acre. About 1878 he sold two farms at $100 per acre. He married in 1835, but his wife dying in 1851, he was married a second time in 1852.

He and his first wife were the parents of eight children; five were deceased before 1890.
