He inherited many of his father's tastes, having been a lover of horses and cattle; he was the owner of a large stock farm where he had many fine horses which he imported from Europe. He traveled extensively and was acquainted with many distinguished men. He was an educated and refined gentleman and also possessed the true artistic sense and collected some very excellent paintings, etc.
