General Notes: Husband - Christian Kribbs

He emigrated with his parents to America in 1785, landing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Being the oldest in the family, he was bound out to a well-to-do planter of New Jersey, while the parents with their other children proceeded to Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. He remained with that gentleman until he had attained his majority, and although he had to work hard, he was provided with a fair education, and obtained a knowledge of the world which he could not have gathered had he accompanied his parents. On leaving his master, at the age of twenty-one, he went in search of his parents, whom he had not seen since leaving Philadelphia twelve years previous, and when found had hard work persuading them that he was their little Christian. It was finally proven by a certain birthmark. He remained in Westmoreland County, where he later married and where five of his children were born. In 1817, he brought his family to Clarion (then Venango) County, and located in Beaver township, about two miles northwest of Edenburg, or Knox, on the farm that came to be known as the old Christian Kribbs farm, where his three other children were born.

The Kribbs family came to this country at an early day. The first of whom we have record is Christian Kribbs, who came with father, brothers and sisters. He was unable to pay his passage in money, therefore his services were sold to the highest bidder, who was a man from Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. He worked out his term of service; then began a search for his relatives, none of whom he had seen since parting at the ship. He finally located them living near the state line between Pennsylvania and New York, but he was so changed in appearance that they did not at first recognize him. He remained in that locality some years, then came to Clarion County, where he literally “hewed a farm from the wilderness.” This tract of two hundred acres was situated in Beaver township, and was later owned by John Whitling. [GPHAV, 555]

He and his wife were both Lutherans.
