General Notes: Wife - Betsey Grove

During the French and Indian war of 1756-63, she was captured by the Indians in York County, Pennsylvania, and kept among them for a period of seven years, but at the age of thirteen years was finally returned at Fort Pitt. [HBC1883, 422]

When a child but seven years old she was captured by Indians and scalped, but her life was spared and she lived with the Indians until she was thirteen, when she was exchanged. In after years when she accompanied her husband to Butler County, Pennsylvania, she recognized several localities along Slippery Rock as places where she had been with the Indians. [HBC 1909, 628]
