General Notes: Husband - Mathias Snyder

This Snyder family traces its origin to good old German stock. An early ancestor came to America about 1700 or possibly a little earlier, settled near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and soon after located near Easton, Northampton County, Pennsylvania.

He with his wife and three children started west from Northampton County, Pennsylvania, in 1794, crossed the mountains and settled three miles north of what is now Jeannette, Westmoreland County. There they engaged in farming and reared a family of five sons and two daughters. The third child, Peter, was a babe when the family came to Westmoreland County and was carried the whole way in his mother's arms, she having walked the entire distance.
