He was born on the home farm in East Pike Run township, Washington County, Pennsylvania, and attended the common schools of the neighborhood. After his first marriage he settled in Allen township, on forty-six acres of well-cultivated land which he made his home. He voted the Republican ticket, and in religious faith he was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church at Mt. Tabor.
