He graduated from Jefferson College in 1851; studied Theology with Dr. Donaldson at Eldersridge and in Princeton; licensed by the Chillicothe Presbytery of Des Moines, Iowa, at Ottumwa, Dec. 6, 1855. Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church for fourteen years, Pastor at Batavia for fourteen years, organized and supplied East End Church of Ottumwa for six years. Along with his pastoral work, he was County Superintendent of Schools for two years. He retired in 1892. Resided in Ottumwa, Iowa.
