General Notes: Husband - Archibald Robertson Osmer

He obtained his preparatory education in the public schools of Franklin, Pennsylvania, graduating from high school in the spring of 1884, in the fall of which year he matriculated at Princeton University, then known as the College of New Jersey. Having completed the full course he was graduated in 1888, and then took up the study of law with his father, gaining admission to the bar of Venango County in 1891. Subsequently he was admitted to practice in the Supreme and Superior courts of the State. Mr. Osmer was interested in practice with his father, and later also with his brother, until the father's death. Since then he and his brother have had their legal business in common, a large share of the most desirable patronage in this section coming into their hands. During the early part of his career A. R. Osmer enlarged his experience of court procedure by two terms of service as district attorney, to which office he was elected in 1893, making a highly creditable record and acquiring a store of practical legal knowledge which has been of great value. He has not aspired to public honors, but has served as a member of the city school board. [HVC 1919, 441]

Mr. Osmer had various social connections in Franklin, holding membership in the Sons of the American Revolution; in Myrtle Lodge, No. 316, F. & A. M.; the B. P. O. Elks, and the Wanango Country Club. [HVC 1919, 442]

He received his preparatory education in the public schools of Franklin, Pennsylvania, and after com-pleting the high school course in 1884, entered Princeton University, where he took the degree of Bachelor of Arts in 1888. Subsequently he studied law in his father's office at Franklin, was admitted to the Venango County bar in 1891 and at a later date was admitted to practice in the Supreme and Superior courts of Pennsylvania. In 1893 he was elected district attorney of Venango County and served with credit in this office for two terms. Until his father's death in 1912 he was associated with him in practice as a member of the firm of J. H. Osmer and Sons, in which Newton F. Osmer was also a partner. Beginning in 1912 Archibald R. and Newton F. Osmer continued the practice without interruption under the firm name of Osmer and Osmer. It was one of the leading law firms of northwest Pennsylvania.
Mr. Osmer was a member of the several bar associations. He was active in various civic interests, serving as a director of Franklin Hospital and member of the city school board, and was affiliated fraternally with Myrtle Lodge, No. 316, Free and Accepted Masons, of which he was Past Master, and with Franklin Lodge, No. 110, Be-nevolent and Protective Order of Elks. He was also a member of the Masonic Club of Franklin and a member of the Wanango Country Club. Mr. Osmer was a Republican in politics and a member of the Unitarian Church.
