General Notes: Husband - William Graham

In 1796 he and his brother, Matthew, came to Butler County, Pennsylvania, and entered a tract of 400 acres of government land in what is now Cranberry township, and began clearing and improving the same. They erected a log cabin thereon, and in the spring of 1797 their mother joined them in their new home. He was a soldier in the War of 1812.

He was born in Butler County, Pennsylvania. He was a soldier under Commodore Perry in the second war with Great Britain, and soon after the great victory of that famous commander on Lake Erie returned to his home. He was, as were all who witnessed the gallant bravery of Perry in that battle, a strong admirer of the young Commodore, and a son born to him soon afterward was named in honor of his former commander.

As early as 1706 [sic] they left their home in Philadelphia, seeking a location in the western part of the state. They dickered for a time for the farm on which the city of McKeesport now stands, but failing to consummate the deal left for Butler County, where they purchased land in Cranberry Township.
He was only thirteen years old when he accompanied his brother to Cranberry Township. He became a prominent figure in the early life of the community, and was widely known in the county. He conducted school for some seasons in different homes and was ever among the foremost in the advancement of the interests of the community. He served in the United States Army during the War of 1812.
After the death of his wife he continued to reside in Cranberry Township until 1856, when he went to live with his son, James H., who then resided in Bedford County. He died there.
For many years he was an elder of Plains Presbyterian Church. He was a Whig in politics until the organization of the Republican party, when he became one of its ardent supporters.

General Notes: Wife - Susan McDonald

She was residing in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, at the time of her marriage.
