For fifty years he was active as a minister in the Presbyterian Church. He was pastor of the Olivet Convent Presbyterian Church, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for thirty-five years. He served as a vice-moderator of the General Assembly and moderator of the Synod of Pennsylvania.
