General Notes: Husband - J. R. McFarland

He was educated in the subscription and select schools of Salem township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. He began the battle of life for himself as a farmer, and after a few years farming in Salem township he purchased and moved onto a farm near Hannastown, which he cultivated until about 1885, when he became a resident of Greensburg.
In politics Mr. McFarland was a democrat of the old school. He was always deeply interested in the welfare of his party, but he never sought any office. He and his family were members of the Presbyterian church.
