Decatur Twp, Clearfield Co, PA

He obtained his literary training in the public schools of the locality. On starting out in life for himself he chose the vocation of farming, in which he met with a fair degree of success, and came to own a half interest in the old family homestead, comprising 125 acres of valuable land. In connection with his farming operations he also engaged in lumbering, and thus added not a little to his income.
In politics, he was a strong Republican, and was called upon to serve in nearly all the township offices, being collector for the period of fourteen years, and township treasurer for eight years.
