He received his preparatory education in the Ligonier schools and in Rev. Dickinson's Classical Institute in Ligonier. He studied medicine with his father, entered the Western University of Pennsylvania and graduated from the medical school connected with that institution in 1900. On leaving college he became the junior member of Ambrose and Barkley, medical practitioners.
