FAIRVIEW-Frank E. Hartley, seventy-six, of W. Lake Rd., Fairview Township, died at his residence Friday evening after an extended illness.
Mr. Hartley was born in Fairview township on March 10, 1888, the son of late George and Christine Exley Hartley and had lived his entire lifetime in the township. He was a retired farmer and for many years was the township assessor. He was a 50-year member of the Lakeside Lodge IIII, IOOF Fairview, and a member of Lake Erie Lodge 345, F. and AM, Girard. He also belonged to the Consistory at Erie and was a member of Zen Zem Shrine at Erie. Survivors include his wife, Cleo Goetz Hartley; one son Frank D. Hartley, Fairview Township; three daughters, Mrs. Leon (Virginia) Platz, Fairview, Mrs. Homer (Elaine) Brown, Fairview Township, and Mrs Harold (Norma) Wiser, Girard Township; a cousin Merle Marsh, of Erie; nine grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. A brother Leo Hartley, preceded him in death in 1964.
Friends may call at the Evans Funeral Home, Fairview, today from 7 to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. and are invited to attend services there Monday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. LeRoy Ickes, pastor of Fairview Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
Lakeside Lodge IIII, IOOF, Fairview, will meet at the funeral home Sunday at 7:30 p.m. to conduct services and Lake Erie Lodge 347 F and AM, Girard, will meet at 8:30 p.m.

CECILIA HARTLEY - Was lifelong farmer
Cecelia "Cleo" Hartley, 93, formerly of 835 Hartley Lane, Fairview, died Tuesday, March 24, 1998, at Pleasant Ridge Manor West. She was born in Fairview, Aug. 31, 1904, a daughter of the late Christian and Lena Peters Goetz. Mrs. Hartley had been a farmer all her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank E. Hartley; a son, Frank D. Hartley; and a granddaughter, Kathleen Ann Brown. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Leon (Virginia) Platz of Davies, Fla., Mrs. Elaine Brown of Fairview, and Mrs. Harold (Norma) Wiser of Girard; two sisters, Irene Tomes of Lake City, and Esther Furman of Bradenton, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to a graveside service at Fairview Cemetery, Thursday, at 3 p.m. The Rev. Charles Canunarata, paster of Fairview Presbyterian Church will officiate. The Burton Funeral Home, 7463 Main Street, Fairview, is in charge of arrangements.
