General Notes: Husband - Rev. William S. Godshall

Like his ancestors, he was trained to the work on the farm, but his father relinquishing the farm when he was twelve years of age gave him a better opportunity to acquire a liberal education in the public schools. The short term of only five months, the crowded school, although materially checking his progress, could not prevent him from becoming a favorite with his teachers and advanced scholars of the public schools. Subsequently he attended Perkiomen Seminary at Pennsburg, Pennsylvania, for two terms, and began to teach school at the age of seventeen, teaching three successive terms in Montgomery County. He took his theological course at Ursinus College, Collegeville, Pennsylvania, 1887\endash '89. When his father's duties as minister of the Gospel began to be too heavy for him, and he felt the infirmities of old age creeping upon him, William was chosen as his successor when but nineteen years of age. He was ordained October 15, 1884, and as bishop November 24, 1886, serving as his father's assistant until his death, when the father's mantle fell upon the son and he became bishop of the congregations at Schwenksville, Bertolet's, Boyertown, Deep Run and Bowmansville. Later, Deep Run and Boyertown were detached, and Pottstown was added to his charge.
He was Secretary of the Eastern District Conference of the Mennonite Church, and member of the Mennonite Board of Foreign Missions.
