He was graduated from Dickinson Seminary, then from Wesleyan University at Middletown, Connecticut, and later took a year's course in the Boston School of Theology. He became a successful minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and was located at Gettysburg in 1898; at Philipsburg, Centre County, in 1913.
