He attended the common schools, the Sandy Lake high school, the Slippery Rock Normal, where he was graduated, and also attended Grove City College. After the death of his father, he with his brother Frank Tennis took control of their father's mill. He served two terms as school director of Sandy Lake. He was a consistent member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and in politics was a Republican. [HMC 1909, 841]
