General Notes: Husband - Ira Sylvenus Gleason

He had a limited education. In 1844 he became an apprentice in a harness shop at Warsaw, Wyoming County, New York, where he remained until January, 1851. On the eleventh of that month he removed to Smethport, McKean County, Pennsylvania, and entered the employment of Steele and Johnson, with whom he remained for three years. Then he went into the harness business for himself. He was also a stockholder in the Smethport Water Company. He was a Republican, and held the office of school director and other town offices. In the Methodist Episcopal church, both he and his wife were members, and he was constantly in some important position, holding at one time or another, nearly all; he was steward, class leader, treasurer, and superintendent of the Sunday school.
