General Notes: Husband - William Gilpin


He served in the army of the United States during the Florida and Mexican wars.

Cadet U. S. Military Academy, July 1, 1834; Second Lieutenant U. S. Dragoons, June 8, 1836; First Lieutenant, Oct. 19, 1836; served in Florida and Mexican Wars; was appointed Governor of the Territory of Colorado by President Lincoln, and was largely instrumental in keeping that territory loyal to the Union.
