General Notes: Husband - David Gillespie

He was born in Ireland and was brought to America by his parents in 1796 when eight years old. He married Rebecca Hays, of Scotch descent, and settled in Washington County, Pennsylvania, but subsequently removed to Kittanning, Armstrong County, Pa., where Mr. Gillespie built the first brick house that was ever built in that prosperous city. He was a plasterer by trade, and in 1838 moved to Mercer County, where he purchased a farm and remained until 1843, removing at that time to Franklin, Pennsylvania, where his death occurred. Ten children were born to him and his wife, five sons and five daughters.
