General Notes: Husband - Samuel C. Gilbert


He received his education in the common schools and at a boarding school in Mount Pleasant, Ohio. On completing his course of study he returned to the farm where he thereafter resided. There, on the estate which was in the possession of the family more than a hundred years, he led the quiet, uneventful life of a prosperous farmer. He served several years as school director. He was a Prohibitionist in politics. He and his sisters were members of the Society of Friends. Mr. Gilbert never married, his household consisting of three of his sisters who made their home with him.
