General Notes: Husband - Jacob Alter


He came to Philadelphia from Rotterdam on the ship "Beulah," and married the granddaughter of Hans Graafe. The Pennsylvania Archives record his service in the Army of the Revolution, Second Battalion, Pennsylvania Infantry. In 1779, he removed from Philadelphia to Cumberland County. Here he built a grist mill and acquired large tracts of land. From Cumberland County he was a member of the House of Representatives of Pennsylvania from the tenth to the sixteenth sessions, inclusive. Later, he removed to Washington County and bought a large farm in Buffalo Township, where he spent the remainder of his life. He left ten children.

He sailed from Rotterdam in the ship "Beulah" and was qualified as a citizen in Philadelphia, September 10, 1753. During the war of the Revolution he served in the Second Battalion, Pennsylvania Line, United States Infantry.

He came from France in the ship "Beulah," which arrived at Philadelphia in September, 1753. His father was Swiss and his mother was a native of France. He first settled in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and remained there about sixteen years. On Dec. 4, 1769, he sold his land in Lancaster County, and on Dec. 29, 1769, purchased land in West Pennsboro township, Cumberland County. [BACC, 586]

He was a native of Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany, and came to America on the ship "Beulah" from Rotterdam, and was qualified as a citizen at Philadelphia September 10, 1753. He took the oath of allegiance in 1778, having settled in Cocallico township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He was enrolled in the Revolutionary army in the Second Battalion, Pennsylvania Line, United States Infantry. Afterward he removed to Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, and there established a flouring mill known as Alter's Mill, on Conodeguinet creek, and acquired a large tract of land in West Pennsboro and Franklin townships.
