General Notes: Husband - George M. McCullough

He and his wife came from Ireland and settled in Washington County, Pennsylvania.

Another source states that he was a native of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, grew to manhood there, and there married. He came to Washington County and settled on a 400-acre tract of land in Smith township, where his life was passed. He brought a few slaves with him to Washington County, where they remained until they died. Politically he was a Federalist, and in religion a member of the Presbyterian Church at Florence, where both he and his wife were buried.

With his wife and family, he emigrated from Little Britain township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, to Smith township, Washington County, and took out a warrant for a tract of land, which was surveyed to him by the name of "Gretna Green," a patent for which he obtained in April, 1785. He died and left seven daughters and one son, the latter of whom died young. The name became extinct. [HWC 1882, 911]

The McCulloughs came from Little Britain township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, to Washington County, about 1786, making a settlement in Smith township, two miles north of Burgettstown. He was one of the original proprietors of the land, having been the one to get out a patent for same. He was a farmer, and died at a very old age, on the farm in Smith township where he had located, having been preceded to the grave by his wife.
