General Notes: Husband - George Gharing


He was born in Wittenberg, Germany, about 1837; came to America in 1844, with his parents and settled in Oakland township, Venango County, Pennsylvania. In 1861, he enlisted in Co. I, 4th Penn. Cavalry. He was in several small engagements, and then fought in the seven day's fight at Richmond. He served two years and three months and re-enlisted. He received two wounds while on a scout in rear of Petersburg, which rendered him unable for duty. He was confined in the hospital for six months; received his discharge in May, 1865, and returned home.

He was a farmer, and lived in Oakland township, Venango County, Pennsylvania.
