General Notes: Husband - J. Q. Truxal

He was educated in the common schools and at Greensburg Seminary, which he attended for three years. In 1880, when seventeen years of age, he began his career as an instructor in the schools of Unity township, Westmoreland County. After five years spent in teaching in these schools he accepted a clerkship in a grain and feed warehouse in South East Greensburg, but a year later resigned in order to become a locomotive fireman on the Pennsylvania railroad. After filling this position for three years and three months he resigned and engaged in the grocery business in South East Greensburg, becoming manager of the co-operative store. In 1895 he went into the grocery business for himself in a building that he erected, and became the head of a flourishing trade.
He served more than thirteen years as justice of the peace and multiple terms as poor-director. For ten years he was a member of the school board, and served as secretary of the County School Directors' Association from its organization until 1905, when he resigned. He affiliated with the Royal Arcanum. He was identified with the Democratic party, and was an elder in the First Reformed church.
