He and his wife settled in Washington Township, Erie County, PA, in 1818.

He settled one mile and a half southeast of of Edinboro, Erie County, PA, clearing most of the farm on which he located, and which he purchased from Andrew Culbertson, one of the first settlers of the township. There he resided until his death.
