General Notes: Husband - James Gault

He served as coroner of Mercer County. His commission bore the stamp of the chief executive of Pennsylvania, dated December 21, 1818, and that of the recorder of Mercer county January 29, 1819. In those days it took some time for even official documents to go from the state capital to the western part of Pennsylvania, and, as Uncle Sam's postal business was hardly very large, he had to charge good stiff rates of postage to make both ends meet. Accordingly, Coroner Gault was obliged to pay seventy-five cents in postage upon his precious commission to say nothing of the recorder's fees, amounting to two dollars.
