General Notes: Husband - William D. Gallup


He was educated in the public schools, and began business life as an employee in the mercantile house of Henry Hamlin, in Smethport, Pennsylvania, remaining four years. He was then employed in Emporium, Pennsylvania, the succeeding four years; after which he returned to Smethport entering the employ of A. N. Taylor, continuing until the decease of the latter, and then for another year with Frank N. Taylor. In 1877 he purchased the old Sartwell store on Main street, Smethport, continuing there in general merchandising until 1881, when he moved to a new location, where he continued in successful business until his death. He was a Republican in politics and in 1877 was elected treasurer of McKean County. In 1885 was elected county commissioner. He was prominent in the Masonic order, belonging to McKean Lodge, No. 388, Free and Accepted Masons; Bradford Chapter, No. 260, Royal Arch Masons; and Trinity Commandery, No. 58, Knights Templar. In religious faith he was a member of St. Luke's Protestant Episcopal Church, Smethport.
