SENECA.
Reported by Bertha Coffman.
Seneca, Oct. 2.
Mrs. Catherine Allison, aged 67 years, died at the Allison homestead in Seneca at 12:50 o'clock p. m. on Saturday, September 21, 1907, after an illness of over a year's duration. In August, 1906, the deceased was taken ill with hardening and enlargement of the eyeball and Bright's disease, and until the time of her death suffered excrusiating agonies. On the Thursday preceding her death, the pain in her eye suddenly abated and her suffering was perceptibly lessened. A weak heart prevented an operation to remove the eye, which would perhaps have prolonged life. A few moments before her death on Saturday she was conversing with her son, Henry, and seemed improved, but suddenly grew worse and her granddaughter, Bertha Coffman was dispatched for the doctor, J. W. Monjar. She had only been back a few minutes when death came. Although her death came as a sudden blow to the members of the family, who administered to her with loving care during the months which she was confined to bed, and to the many sorrowing relatives and friends, they could not wish her to endure her suffering longer. Catherine Allison, daughter of Jonathan and Eliza Lusher, of Rockland, was born on the old Lusher homestead at that place April 14, 1840. She was married on Christmas day, 1863, to Samuel Allison, of Cranberry township, whose death occurred in 1895, and they moved to Seneca and resided on the old Allison homestead, now owned by McBride Bros., for five or six years. From there they removed to Evansville, Wis., where they resided seven years, and returned to Seneca and resided on the farm which has since been the home of the family. Eight children were born to them as follows: H. H. Allison, Coody's Bluff, I. T.; William, Gibsonburg, O. (deceased); Mrs. Reuben Heckathorn, Reed; J. E., Gibsonburg; Mrs. D. A. Coffman, Seneca (deceased); Mrs. J. F. Oswalt, Kerrville, Tex.; Miss Mary and R. O. Allison, at home. Out of a family of fourteen brothers and sisters the following survive: Mrs. John Montgomery, Knox; Miss Martha, Peter and Miles, at the homestead in Rockland; Mrs. Richard Forbes and Mrs. Almira Mouck of Sandy Lake, Mercer county; Dave Lusher, Ellwood; Jacob Lusher, Rockland. In the death of Mrs. Allison, Cranberry loses another of its oldest residents and the immediate neighborhood one of its kindest and best-hearted women, while a large circle of relatives and friends are left to mourn the loss of a devoted member of the family circle. She was a member of the M. E. Church during the greater part of her life. The funeral services were conducted at the home at 9 o'clock on Tuesday morning, conducted by Rev W. P. Lowthian, of the M. E. church, assisted by Rev. Davis of the Presbyterian church, and the choir of the Methodist church. The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful. The interment was in the Rockland cemetery, the following acting as pall-bearers: J. D. Wigton, E. S. Lewis, John Steffee, H. Henderson, A. W. Kinnear and William Craig.
