Irwin, Westmoreland Co, PA

For thirty years he was pattern-maker for the Hockensmith Car and Wheel Company. In his youth he served in the Union army during the Civil War, enlisting August 18, 1864, in the Second Brigade, Third Division, Ninth Corps, General Park commanding, and later he did picket duty at Richmond for three months. Subsequently he was stationed at Petersburg and afterward was present at the capture of Fort Steadman. He was in the general charge from Richmond to Petersburg, and on June 2, 1865, was honorably discharged. He became captain of S. S. Marchent Post, No. 190, Grand Army of the Republic, of Irwin.
