He attended common school until his nineteenth year, later study­ing at Lambeth College, and at St. John's University, Haddonfield, NJ. Afterward he took up the study of law, and was admitted to the bar at Kittanning, PA, in 1883. In 1885 he was appointed post office inspector, which office he resigned in 1888. From then much of his time was devoted to promoting the interests of the Democratic party, in which he was for a long time active and influential, and on seventeen different occasions he attended State conventions of the party as a delegate. In 1911 he resumed the practice of law at Freeport, PA, where he now made his home.
