General Notes: Husband - Squire James Irwin

He came to America from "Indelone," near Carnteel, County Tyrone, Ireland, in 1783. He was presumably accompanied by his sister, Jane Irwin. He acquired property at Jacksonville, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, owning the McIntire property before it came into the possession of Hugh McIntire. He was for many years a justice of the peace in North Huntingdon township. He patented or purchased a large tract of land adjoining the Brush Hill estate of his brother, Colonel John Irwin, and on this tract he erected the usual complement of log dwelling, barn, etc., also a still house to convert the grain of the region into a portable and convenient form for transmission to markets, a practice then common with the farmers of the county. He was for many years the agent and advisor of Hugh McFarlane, William Dixon, the McWilliams, and other friends and former neighbors in Ireland, who owned lands in America or proposed going there. He was highly esteemed as an enterprising, energetic citizen and neighbor, of correct manners and morals, and of honest, methodical business habits.

He and his wife were originally buried at Long Run cemetery, but later their remains were removed to Union cemetery, near Irwin.
