He made much money in army contracts, was a surveyor as well as a planter, and with John Irwin ran the boundary line between Penn-sylvania and New York; he was presiding judge of Franklin County, Penn-sylvania, at the organization of the court. He married and had several children. His great weight, amount-ing to four hundred and sixty pounds, caused him to be known as "Big Hum-phrey."
